This text book will take you through learning, understanding and applying nursing theory as well as giving you a feel for how it was done back in the day by discussing the history of nursing theory. Bet you’re excited to take a class on Physical Examination and Health Assessment. Wait..no? But the authors of this book promise you that this book will make it interesting. What reason do they have to lie to you? Do you really need a reason? Maybe you’re not quite physician material.
Unfortunately, the text in this book isn’t as exciting as the subject sounds; by physical examinations, that usually means you’re checking out warts on some old lady’s back or telling a middle aged guy with a hairy back to bend his knee a little more. What could be more exciting than that? Besides stabbing yourself in the eye with your pencil I mean.

If you were looking forward to Anatomy class because you thought you’d get to check out the anatomy of your fellow students, well, you’ll have to do that on your own time, because Anatomy and Physiology is not nearly that interesting, at least if you’re going by this book, although they do strongly promote their interactive CD, pull out charts, and zoomed in photos. I don’t know how you’re going to contain you’re excitement, but you’re just gonna have to try. It’s a revolution I tell ya, a revolution.
The authors’ of this fabulous book pretend they tried to write a student friendly anatomy book; I say pretend, because one look at it and you’ll see there are no naked photos of hot women, ripply muscled men, or even text that’s somewhat easy to read. It’s pretty much the same as any other textbook on the same subject, disguised as “visually appealing” and “engaging”. Yeah, right. While the information may be necessary in some fields, I do not want to live in a world where a book of this caliber is actually considered to be engaging.
This is a pretty expensive book, so unless you’re really interested in the subject and can tell a difference between this one and any other, rental may be your best option, especially if you’ve already got a shelf full of these kinds of books as they really do all start to blend together after awhile.
